Match the Mask, along with numerous other projects and events, is run, organized, and led by San Mateo High School's Red Cross Club. One of the largest clubs at their school, the 30+ member club currently remains committed to the health and well being of many physicians that are risking their lives to prevent the spread of this virus.
SMHS Red Cross Club- What we do:
At San Mateo High School’s Red Cross Club, students organize and participate in numerous youth-led community service events such as fundraisers, tabling events, blood drives, and much more. During weekly club meetings, the club board creates detailed presentations compiled with current global issues and upcoming volunteering opportunities, informing students of San Mateo High about present global matters, and providing outreach opportunities where students can engage in communal services. At our Red Cross club, we believe it is essential to give back to our community and help others in need, which is our sole motivation to bring like-minded students together to do good in our community.
Meet our Team
Shivum is a Junior at San Mateo High School who loves to play water polo and swim in his free time. At home, he can be seen jamming out to Post Malone, playing Call of Duty with his friends, and toasting some bagels. For the last three years, Shivum has been volunteering for the American Red Cross and has been a part of and has led numerous fundraisers, volunteering events, and community service activities. Shivum is SMHS's Red Cross Club President, the West Bay YEB Liaison, and on the Bay Area Board of Directors.
Steven is a Senior at San Mateo High School that partakes in marching band, water polo, and track. Whenever he has free time, Steven enjoys going to the gym, folding origami, and taking pictures. Outside of school, Steven volunteers for the local Mills-Peninsula Hospital and the American Red Cross! In the future, Steven aspires to pursue a career in the medical field as a surgeon. Steven is the West Bay YEB Chair and on the Bay Area Board of Directors.
Angela Zhang, Secretary
Angela Zhang is currently a Junior at San Mateo High School. She enjoys talking with her friends, playing the piano, and getting boba. Her favorite boba place is Teaspoon, and there’s no doubt that she has a boba addiction :)). Angela is passionate about giving back to the community and she is also interested in pursuing a career in the medical field in the future. For the past three years, Angela has volunteered for the Red Cross and has grown to love what she does as part of her school’s club.
Jeffrey Dong, Liasion
Jeffrey is a Senior at San Mateo High School and can often be caught half - awake during early morning lifeguard shifts. Although he enjoys different genres of music, he mostly listens to trap and hip hop when working out. Jeffrey enjoys playing a wide variety of sports, along with playing waterpolo and volleyball for his school. He loves to munch on Honey Nut Cheerios late at night.
Alicia Chan, Treasurer
Alicia is a Junior at San Mateo High School. She enjoys playing tennis, playing the violin, and dancing. She also likes to hang out with friends and family. Alicia has been trying to get better at cooking and baking during this shelter in place.
Allison Zhu, Publicity
Allison is a Junior at San Mateo high school who loves spending time with her friends and meeting new people. Apart from hitting balls on the court and barely making it around the track, she can often be found in the kitchen cooking or baking. Allison enjoys playing music and taking photos. ask her to dance and she will not hesitate to show off her super smooth wave.
